FAQs

3D printing and Rapid Prototyping

  • What material can we 3D print in?
ABS M30 is a good all round plastic with excellent tensile, impact and flexural strength perfect for 3D printing. ABS is commonly found on end-use parts like car bumpers, golf club heads, Lego and medical equipment. If you require a different plastic for your rapid prototyping please speak to us as there are other options.
  • What colours are available for 3D printing?
Black, Grey, Blue, Red, Ivory, White.
  • What are the tolerances of the machine?
±0.127mm or ±0.0015mm/mm are the general tolerances of our additive manufacturing machines. If you require something more accurate please let us know.
  • What if I require finer tolerances?
After we have 3D printed your parts we can use CNC machining on specific sections of the print to obtain tighter tolerances in areas like O-ring grooves.
  • How long will my 3D printing job take?
This depends on the size, quantity and resolution of your rapid prototype. We generally quote 5 day turn around but most of our local customers have their parts in 3 days.
  • How do I get a quote?
Just upload your parts on our website and one of our consultants will get back to you shortly.

Design

  • What services does TR Savage provide?
TR Savage offer an array of design services of which any can be implemented together or as a singular service. However the general process is:
    • Outlining a brief which is then used as the foundation for concept generation.
    • Once a concept is agreed on, the detailing of this design/s is the next stage. It will most likely consist of CAD drawings, photo realistic render with a strong design for manufacture emphasis.
    • A rapid prototype is then created. With our in-house 3D printing capabilities we can print prototypes of end-use quality in short time frames. The rapid prototype can be used for form and function testing.
  • Does TR Savage provide CAD drawings?
It is standard practice that everything we make at TR Savage requires a CAD drawing. If you would like the CAD drawings for future reference this is easily arranged in an array of file formats.
  • What is Savage Design’s affiliation with TR Savage?
Savage Design is incorporated in TR Savage. It is the design department that is made up of university trained designers. Combined with the engineers at TR Savage you are guaranteed professional, accurate and original designs.

Manufacture

  • What machines does TR Savage have?
TR Savage have an array of machines to carry out a range of work, however we are best known for our CNC turning and milling. With 13 CNC machines, most of them being top of the range Mori Seiki's, our engineering machine shop is one of the most competent tool rooms around.
  • What are the tolerances of the machining?
TR Savage can machine to most tolerances and are known for our precision machining. While we often undertake precision machining to tighter tolerances, a common tolerance for our work is ±0.05.
  • What materials can TR Savage machine?
We provide CNC machining on a massive range of materials but common materials are:
    • Steel
    • Aluminium
    • Brass
    • Copper
    • High tensile steels
    • Bronze
    • Iron
    • ABS
    • Acetyl
  • Do we offer fabrication?
Yes we often do fabrication work. With a high tech welding bay and a brand new spray booth we are set up to accommodate most jobs.
